The Laboratory Services at Murshid Hospital deliver accurate and reliable diagnostic results supported by stringent quality control measures. Both the Laboratory and Blood Bank are managed by experienced pathologists, ensuring prompt and effective service to meet the needs of our physicians and patients.
Our laboratory performs a wide range of diagnostic tests, including:
- Serology
- Haematology
- Biochemistry
- Microbiology
- Para Cytology
The Laboratory operates independently with a dedicated team of 11 faculty members and 3 trainees. Our services run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, handling approximately 8,000 tests monthly. Currently, tests are performed exclusively for hospital patients and not for external doctors or hospitals.

Quality Control
Maintaining the credibility of laboratory results requires a robust quality control program using calibrators and controls. Our laboratory operates in three shifts with senior technicians on duty at all times. We are in the process of registering with AFIP and plan to register with RIQAS to further enhance our quality assurance. Continuous education is encouraged, with staff regularly attending workshops, seminars, and symposiums.
Educational Programmes
The Department offers a one-year Residency Training Programme recognized by the Sindh Board. Each year, four to five residents complete this programme and pursue successful careers in laboratories within Pakistan and abroad. This programme is renowned nationally for its quality training and expert faculty supervision.
Additionally, the department runs comprehensive rotation-based teaching and training programmes for laboratory technicians and undergraduate medical students.
